World’s largest cricket stadium to come up in India

India will soon be home to the world’s largest cricket stadium. The Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat will soon finish its renovation to open doors to cricket fans. Sharing an update, Gujarat Cricket Association Vice President Parimal Nathwani, shared some pictures on Twitter.

“World’s Largest Cricket Stadium, larger than #Melbourne, is under construction at #Motera in #Ahmedabad,#Gujarat. Once completed the dream project of #GujaratCricketAssociation will become pride

of entire India. Sharing glimpses of construction work under way. @BCCI@ICC#cricket,” Nathwani tweeted.

The cricket stadium at Motera, which was established in 1983, was demolished by Gujarat Cricket Association in 2016 to kickstart the renovation works. Nearing completion, the massive stadium sprawling over 63 acres of land, will soon be capable to accommodate close to 1.10 lakh spectators, surpassing Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), which currently has a seating capacity of close to 1 lakh and stands as the world’s largest stadium. Being built with a whopping cost of Rs 700 crore, the prestigious project is the brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi

.

As per News 18, the foundation stone of the stadium was laid in January 2018. Reportedly, the Gujarat Cricket Association handed the project to Larsen and Tourbo (L&T). Architecture firm M/s Populous has taken over the onus of designing the stadium.

The cricket stadium will also feature a 50-room club house, 76 corporate boxes and a swimming pool. In addition, an indoor cricket training academy will also be constructed within the stadium.
