In another case of stampede, nine persons died and several others sustained injuries at Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Kasibugga of Srikakulam district on 1 November.
According to reports, devotees in large numbers thronged the temple to have a darshan of the God on the occasion of the auspicious Ekadasi in the ‘Karthika masam’.
The injured persons were admitted to a local hospital.
The incident took place as the staff of the temple failed to control the surging crowd.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the incident.
He directed officials to ensure quick and better treatment for the injured devotees.
The newly built temple was opened to the public in May this year.
