Indian Navy withdraws curbs on civil flights at Visakhapatnam Airport

At a meeting with the Chief Minister, Nara Chandrababu Naidu in the city, the Indian Navy has taken the decision to withdraw the curbs on civil flights at the Visakhapatnam Airport.

The Navy officials, after several discussions with the people representatives and the CM, regarding the effects of time restrictions at the Airport, have decided to lift the curbs. The representatives mentioned that restrictions would affect tourism, hotels and Vizag economy as well.

The time slots for the restriction were revised for two months every week till now by the Navy officials.

From the starting

  • At first, the Indian Navy informed that the public services would be halted from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm in the morning and 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm during the evenings, starting from November 1.
  • Chandrababu Naidu then wrote a letter to Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman requesting not to impose the restrictions, at least until the establishment of  Greenfield International Airport at Bhogapuram, Vizianagaram district.
  • When the Airport Authority officers and other flight companies officials requested to reduce the time slots, the Navy has decided to reduce the timings and restrict flights from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm from November 1.
  • In a meeting with the Eastern Naval Commanding-in-chief Karambir Singh on Monday, Member of Parliament Kambampati Haribabu, MLA Vishnukumar Raju and MLC Madhav have suggested the chief to withdraw curbs on civil flights. The MP team has mentioned the proposal of a Navy runway and Navy Station at Bandangi, to the officials of the Eastern Naval Command. They also informed about the problems and decisions of cancelling flights by certain air companies to the officials.
  • In the latest, the Navy officials have decided to withdraw all the restrictions after meeting with the CM in Visakhapatnam Airport on Friday.
