An agreement was made in the presence of State IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh for the establishment of the GMR-MANSAS Aviation, Aerospace, Defence Education City (GMR-MANSAS Educity) at a programme held at Radisson Blu resort in Visakhapatnam on 16 December, marking the formal launch of the prestigious project.
To be set up near Bhogapuram, the project is aimed at imparting training in the aviation sector and establishing related institutions.
Said to be the first of its kind in the country, the project will be established by GMR and MANSAS trust in association with the government.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Civil Aviation K. Rammohan Naidu said that the Bhogapuram International Airport would be inaugurated in May, one month ahead of schedule. A trial run would be conducted next month, he added.
Lokesh said that several IT companies were interested in launching operations from Visakhapatnam. Defending the decision to allot lands for IT companies at the rate of 99 paise per acre, he said it made the firms come forward to set up their units in the city.
The aim of the government was to achieve progress in all sectors, said the Minister.
Goa Governor and MANSAS Trust chairman P. Ashok Ganapati Raju and others were present.
