Vizag has been called the City of Destiny for a long time. Now it is time for innovation and development. Last night, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu celebrated the $15 billion investment in a 1-gigawatt Google AI data centre project in Vizag on the social media platform X. The poster shared by the CM features a blue sea and green hills in the background. The main title of the poster reads Viza’G’, with Google’s logo replacing the alphabet. The caption reads: “The G in #Vizag now stands for @Google! #YoungestStateHighestInvestment”
The investment is a critical milestone for the city, as it marks the highest investment from Google outside the U.S. Chandrababu Naidu also explained that this marks a significant chapter in Vizag’s development and establishes it as a hub for global IT investments.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian stated that this hub will be Google’s largest investment outside the U.S. The facility will also grow from its initial one gigawatt capacity in the future. Sundar Pichai, Google CEO, also said that this data centre will bring Google’s cutting-edge technology to Indian enterprises and users, enabling AI growth and innovation nationwide.
The initiative of the 1-gigawatt Google data centre is to position Vizag as a global connectivity hub and boost other sectors such as healthcare, education, the AI industry, and digital infrastructure.
