With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR) is organising a camp for the detection of breast cancer. This camp will begin on 25 October, 2021. The breast cancer detection camp will be free of cost and is open to all in Vizag.
As part of this detection camp, participants can avail a complete clinical examination and an ultrasound of the breast. If required, a Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) biopsy of the breast is also on offer, where a thin needle is inserted to extract a small amount of tissue from your breast to check if the tissue contains any cancer cells.
The breast cancer detection camp will run from 9 AM to 4 PM from 25 October to 30 October at GIMSR, Vizag.
Breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer around the world and is one of the leading causes of female deaths. Although this form of cancer is majorly found in women, there are rare cases of men getting it as well. Like any other type of cancer, the best chances of cure lie in the early detection of breast cancer.
To spread awareness about breast cancer, a marathon named “Vizag Going Pink” is organised in the city. This marathon was last organised in December 2019 at Beach Road.
