The test flight will be conducted from the Bhogapuram International Airport in the last week of December or in the first week of January, according to Union Minister for Civil Aviation K. Rammohan Naidu.
The Union Minister, who reviewed the progress of works at the airport on 4 November, told the media that over 91 percent of works were completed. “We are keen on finishing the work ahead of the stipulated time.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be invited to the inauguration of the airport, said Rammohan Naidu.
It was also proposed to establish an aviation university in the region, he said, observing that Bhogapuram airport would become a focal point for growth in the North Andhra region.
Aiming at improving connectivity, a slew of measures were being taken. In the last 18 months, several new airports were set up, said the Union Minister.
Representatives from aviation companies would be invited to the proposed partnership summit in Visakhapatnam, he said.
Rammohan Naidu, who later took part in the zonal committee meeting of the Waltair division, pitched for train services from Srikakulam to Charlapalli and Tirupati. When he urged the railway authorities to focus on it, they responded positively. He underlined the need to develop the Visakhapatnam railway station as an iconic station.
