CM launches ‘Auto Drivarla Sevalo’

Wearing a khaki shirt a la an auto driver, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched the new scheme — Auto Drivarla Sevalo — in the State on 4 October.

Under the scheme, a sum of Rs. 15,000 each has been credited to the bank accounts of the drivers of auto-rickshaws and cabs. The scheme benefits over 2.90 lakh drivers in the State.

Speaking at a meeting held in Vijayawada to mark the launch of the populist scheme, the Chief Minister said: “The government is planning to introduce an app for the benefit of auto drivers. The app will help auto drivers face challenges from Uber and Ola. If necessary, a welfare board will be set for auto drivers.”

He asked the auto drivers to approach the officials concerned if the amount was not credited to their accounts.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, who was also present, said the government was committed to solving the problems of the people. Despite financial constraints, the alliance government decided to extend the aid to auto-rickshaw drivers, he said.

Minister for HRD and IT Nara Lokesh and others also participated in the programme.

In Visakhapatnam, the scheme was launched by district in-charge Minister Dola Bala Veersnjaneya Swamy at VMRDA Children Arena.

As many as 22,955 drivers of auto-rickshaws in Visakhapatnam district are benefited by the scheme.
