A school-going boy drowns at RK Beach in Vizag

One of the most popular attractions in Vizag, RK Beach is becoming notorious due to numerous incidents of drowning. One such incident took place on Sunday when a class 8 student from the city visited the beach with his friends. Apparently, he went for a swim in the sea and the strong tide drowned him.

The victim has been identified as Prem Kumar, who is a resident of One Town area in the city. He had gone to RK Beach on Sunday with his friends and they all went for a swim.

According to One Town Police, Prem succumbed to the strong waves and got separated from his friends. The locals and the police soon got to know about the incident and came to the boy’s aid. He was rescued and taken to King George Hospital (KGH) in the city for treatment. However, it was too late and the boy was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

On the same day, another incident of drowning was reported in Visakhapatnam District where four members of a family, including two small girls, had drowned. The incident happened while the four victims were fishing at a canal in GK Veedhi Mandal under Visakhapatnam Agency.

A similar drowning incident had been reported in July 2021 in Vizag when two college students had ventured into the sea at RK beach. While one of them could be saved, the other one had been declared missing. Visakhapatnam Police has time and again asked people not to venture into the sea, saying that the current is not safe for swimming. However, people don’t pay heed to the police’s words and still, a lot of drowning incidents are reported.
