The much-awaited Anna Canteens in Visakhapatnam are all set to be launched on June 8. The canteens, which would be offering food at cheaper prices, are fast approaching the completion stage.
It was reported that of the 203 Anna canteens that would be coming up across Andhra Pradesh, 25 canteens would be built in Visakhapatnam.
“The objective is to serve quality food to common man, meeting the food safety standards and treating the customers with dignity. Of 110 ULBs across the State, 71 have been identified to set up Anna canteens. Based on the response, the facility will be made available in the remaining ULBs,” K. Kanna Babu, Director of the Municipal Administration was quoted as saying.
The state government had sent a team of commissioners from various civic bodies of AP, including GVMC commissioner M Hari Narayanan to Hyderabad and Chennai to observe how Annapurna and Amma canteens are functioned. The team has noticed that the standard menu and price on an average is Rs 5 for breakfast and Rs 10 for both lunch and dinner. The total cost for three meals a day was Rs 57 and customers pay only 25 while the remaining amount comes under government’s subsidy.
While the breakfast menu would consist of ‘idly’, ‘poori’, ‘pongal, and ‘upma’, the lunch and dinner would consists of rice, curry, dal, pickle, and curd.
