The attack on YSRCP Chief, YS Jagan, in Vizag last year, had no conspiracy behind it, according to the Commissioner of Police, Mahesh Chandra Laddha. The top police official said that the accused, J Srinivasa Rao (30), had carried out the attack as he wanted to become ‘famous’.
Addressing a press conference in the city, Mr Laddha informed that Rao was suffering from “split personality syndrome” and had no other motive while attacking YS Jagan at Vizag airport in October last year.
The Commissioner of Police, who cited the investigation by the Special Investigation Team, further informed that the attack on the politician was pre-planned and Rao wanted to rise to national fame with it.
It may be recalled that YS Jagan sustained a deep cut in his left shoulder in the attack.
Reportedly, Rao, who worked at a cafetaria at Vizag airport, had approached Jagan for a selfie, before attacking him with a knife. The attacker was immediately overpowered by the surrounding security personnel and was taken into custody. The YSRCP Chief later left for Hyderabad where he was nursed to health.
The attack created a huge furore in the political fraternity of Andhra Pradesh with different parties getting involved in heated debates over the issue. YS Jagan had also written to Governor E S L Narasimhan requesting to transfer the case to an agency that did not function under the state government.
Rao, who was charged with attempt to murder, is under judicial custody now.
