YS Jagan says he’ll quit politics if CM Naidu proves the allegations against him related to Paradise Papers

The leaked Paradise Papers, an investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), have created a storm off-late. Owing to the revelations made by these papers, many eminent personalities in the country have been accused of stashing their wealth in offshore accounts.

Apart from the movie celebrities and numerous prominent businessmen, many politicians have also caught the ire of the nation for having their names mentioned in these papers. President of YSRCP, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, is also one among the politicians from the state of Andhra Pradesh who have been accused of stashing their wealth in several offshore accounts.

The opposition leader, however, dared Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to prove that he had stored his wealth abroad.

Jagan, while reacting to the media reports, was quoted by PTI as saying,”I am giving you (Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu) 15 days’ time. If you can prove that I have deposited even one paisa in foreign countries, I will quit politics. If not, will you step down as the chief minister?”. He also added, “Whenever I take up a major programme, like this padyatra, Chandrababu (Naidu) and his cohorts start a malicious campaign against me. This has become a habit for them to divert people’s attention from reality.”

The YSRCP Chief also said, “In the last eight years, I was never cowed down by those in power. I always indulged in clean and honest politics and will never bring disrepute to my (late) father (former Andhra CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy).”

Jagan, who is currently busy with his ‘Padayatra’, was slammed by TDP leader Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy after his name surfaced in the leaked Paradise Papers.

YS Jagan will be covering 3000 km across the state’s 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh to meet people in person and get to know what their concerns are. His journey will also include 180 public meeting covering 125 Assembly constituencies.
