Restaurants in Vizag found guilty of serving stale food

The malpractice of serving stale and leftover food continues to prevail in certain restaurants in Vizag. The officials of the vigilance and enforcement department and food safety wing of GVMC (Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation) conducted surprise raids on multiple restaurants across the city on Monday.

As reported by Eenadu, the officials found stale chicken, prawns, and fish in the freezers at the Grand Alphaa Hotel at Old Gajuwaka in Vizag. The officials observed a similar state of things at Alif Hotel as well. DSP K Sravani informed that stale food, unhygienic kitchens, and practices such as the addition of non-permitted food colours, posed serious threats to the consumers’ health. She further added that action would be taken against these restaurants for not following food safety norms.

Sea Inn (Raju gari Dhaba) at Beach Road and Prince Dhaba at PM Palem were also raided by the Vigilance Enforcement officials. The officials collected samples of stale food and informed that cases would be registered against these restaurants. Paradise and Kamat restaurants near Anandapuram in Vizag were also raided by the officials. Apart from using prohibited food colours and storing food for longer periods, Kamat restaurant had not obtained a requisite license from the food safety department for running the restaurant, reports claimed. The officials informed that samples from these restaurants would be sent to Hyderabad for lab testing and after receiving the reports, action would be taken accordingly.

It may be recollected that earlier too, a few restaurants in Vizag were booked for serving stale food to their customers.
