There is something undeniably romantic about the monsoon season in Vizag. The petrichor, the sound of rain against the windows and the sudden urge to curl up with a book can make even the most ordinary day feel a little cinematic. While Cyclone Arnab provides some much-needed relief from the hot and bothersome humidity, Vizag rains also come with a few realities that make you love and hate the monsoon season in equal measure. 1. When Your Umbrella Has a Mind of Its Own

The rain starts, you open your umbrella and, for a brief moment, you feel prepared, until a gust of wind decides otherwise. Suddenly, your umbrella is turning inside out and threatening to fly in every direction except the one where it is supposed to protect you. And while you’re busy wrestling with your umbrella, the rain has already found its way into your shoes, sleeves and hair.

For those dealing with sinus issues and migraines, the sudden change in weather can make an already difficult day even more uncomfortable. Thoughts and prayers.

2. The WFH Request You Really Mean

Few things make a WFH request feel more justified than waking up to relentless rain.

Not every workplace offers WFH, but Vizagites know how difficult the commute can get when the rain refuses to let up. For those lucky enough to work from home, the commute is simply from bed to laptop. For everyone else, it’s a different story: braving the rain, dodging puddles and battling traffic, only to reach work looking like you’ve completed a small expedition.

A steaming cup of hot chocolate, a plate of crispy pakoras, or even a bowl of spicy noodles that warms you from the inside out. But ordering in during heavy rain comes with its own dilemma as delivery partners are already navigating slippery roads, and you don’t exactly want to make their job harder.

So, you decide to cook and five minutes later, you’re staring into the void wondering whether your craving was really worth the effort.

5. The Monsoon Aesthetic vs. Reality

Rain makes productivity feel optional, making your bed seem like the only place you need to be. Until you step outside, that is, and your carefully curated monsoon aesthetic falls apart. Hair frizzes, outfits lose their charm and that effortless rainy-day look quickly becomes a battle against the elements. Suddenly, the rain doesn’t seem quite as romantic anymore.

If only adulthood, deadlines and work calls would let us enjoy it uninterrupted.
