In the latest proposal that is aimed at easing out the traffic and parking woes on Vizag beach road, the city’s police has suggested making the popular route one-way. The police have proposed to impose the restriction on the road stretching from the NTR statue to The Park hotel, on the side that shares its boundary with the beach. Also, the restriction is expected to be imposed on weekends and public holidays, when the footfall at the beach is generally high.
However, it has been made clear that it is just a proposal any further actions will be decided based on the response garnered from the public of Visakhapatnam.
As informed by ADCP (Traffic) M. Ramesh Kumar, the denizens can express their opinions on the proposal by writing to the authorities at Whatsapp number 9493336633. They can also tweet @vizagcitypolice or share their views on the Facebook page vizagcitypolice.
The idea, which has been mooted by the city‘s new Commissioner of Police, Mahesh Chandra Laddha, aims at converting the road abutting the beach into a parking area. The plan has been proposed keeping in mind the heavy traffic congestion experienced on the beach road during holidays. The move to make Vizag beach road one-way, the police feel, would help in facilitating a smoother flow of traffic and make life easier for tourists as well.
“We will go ahead with the proposal if it’s accepted by the citizens. The final decision will be taken only after the suggestions of the people are discussed by the Police Commissioner, in consultation with Collector Pravin Kumar and GVMC Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan and the other officers concerned,” ACP(traffic) Kinjarapu Prabhakar was quoted as saying.
