Visakhapatnam has been witnessing thunderstorms in the recent times. With reports suggesting that the coming days too would be no different, we followed up with the weather forecast officials and here’s what they had to say.
Speaking to Yo! Vizag, an official of the Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam, said, “Thunderstorm activities generally happen in the month of May before the onset of the monsoon season and is called as the pre-monsoon shower, which is more compared to the previous years. North coastal Andhra Pradesh (AP) is more vulnerable to these showers as compared to south coastal AP.”
When asked about the reason behind the thunderstorms and the weather, the official informed that there are several reasons that contribute. Citing the circulation of winds near Andhra Pradesh, he mentioned that irregularity in troughs in upper air winds is a prime factor.
“North Coastal areas in AP, like Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam are recording more number of thunderstorms. Those who seek shelter under trees or stand near to electric poles or in high areas should be careful during such storms”, the official further added.
