Officials survey the routes for metro rail in Visakhapatnam

One project that has been making the news quite often is that of the metro rail project in Visakhapatnam. Deemed as one of the much-awaited projects to come up in the city, the metro rail project has been hitting multiple roadblocks over the years. However, with the state government announcing its intentions to complete the project in the coming few years, steps are being taken towards the same.

It was earlier reported that the foundation stone of the project might be laid this February. In the latest development, concerned officials, on Tuesday, surveyed different routes of metro rail in Visakhapatnam. Reportedly, the officials analysed the routes from Sheela Nagar to Gajuwaka, where the lines are expected to be laid.

Reportedly, the officials will soon prepare a detailed report based on their analysis and submit it to the higher authorities. Survey officials Vijaykumar and Ravichandra, along with other officials, participated in a two-hour-long survey at Sheela Nagar, Akkireddypalem, Nathayyapalem, BHPV, Gajuwaka, and other areas.

It may be recalled that VMRDA (Visakhapatnam Metro Region Development Authority) was assigned the position of key responsibility in executing the prestigious project in Visakhapatnam. The urban planning agency of the city will be responsible for the allocation of stations and sale of tickets, among others.

With an estimated cost of Rs 8300 crores, the metro rail is one of the bigger scale projects coming up in Visakhapatnam. Expected to cover over 42 km, the metro lines are likely to run across three corridors in the city. While the first corridor would be laid from Gajuwaka to Kommadi, the other two are likely to find a place along the routes of Gurudwara-Old Post Office and Thatichetlapalem-Chinna Waltair respectively.
