The tourism in Visakhapatnam is set to get another boost. The GVMC has decided to develop the city’s own Tank bund.
The heart of the city has many parks and gardens for people to visit. On the other hand, the outskirts don’t boast of many sites that could attract the tourists. Keeping this in mind, the government has shifted focus to these areas. On the orders of minister Ganta Srinivas Rao, the GVMC has decided to revamp the Tagarapuvalasa area. The officials are willing to transform the Chittivalasa lake into a tourist spot.
The Chittivalasa lake is located on the Tagarapuvalasa-Bheemili road. It is spread over a wide area of 36.40 acres. Due to the city’s expansion, all the sewage and drainage from it is being directed into this lake. As the lake doesn’t have a proper outlet, all this waste is making it produce a foul smell. Also, the lake has dried up considerably. It’s surrounded by weed and thorny plants.
However, this lake is set to get an all new makeover. The officials are planning to develop it in a way which would be similar to Hyderabad’s Tank Bund. An estimate of INR 10 crores is being catered to this project.
The sewage and waste which have been flowing into the Chittivalasa lake are now being redirected into the Gosthani river. Even the surroundings will be cleared off all the garbage so that the lake has a spick and span look. The lake will be surrounded by a wall of 8 ft high and 10 ft wide. Additionally, facilities such as walking tracks, boat rides, etc will also be made available to attract the tourists. Similar to the Tank Bund, the Chittivalasa lake will also be witnessing the statues of some eminent personalities from India. Amenities such as drinking water, restaurants, and bathrooms will also be taken care of.
