At a cost of Rs 45 Crore, the works of Alluri Sitarama Raju Tribal Museum, 3D library and dome-shaped theme based galleries with a revolving tower are set to begin soon at Thimmapuram in Visakhapatnam.
Speaking to The Hindu, Tribal Culture, Research and Training Mission Director, A.S.P.S. Ravi Prakash, said, “The design for the project is being prepared by internationally acclaimed architect Nitish Roy.”
As the State Government has sanctioned the budget, construction works of the tribal museum would be starting soon. Rs 15 Crore would be used for establishing the museum and the remaining amount would be used for the revolving tower and restaurant constructions.
Mr. Ravi Prakash mentioned, “We have decided to undertake the construction works on a fast-track basis on research and showcasing tribal culture and lifestyle in the State, jewellery and costume assume a lot of significance.”
A ground plus three design building would be constructed in the first phase. The construction of the amphitheatre and a library would complete its construction in March next year. A tribal institute and administrative block are already under construction at Rushikonda in Visakhapatnam at Rs 10 Crore.
After mentioning about a ground plus four sea-facing administrative building which is expected to be ready by December, Ravi Prakash said, “Andhra Pradesh needs to have its own centre for tribal research and facility to showcase the rich tribal heritage as the main centre in Hyderabad is now in Telangana. We will try to get the books relevant to us back.”
Stalls to display souvenirs, costumes of the lifestyle of the tribes and handicrafts would also be showcased in the museum.
A 3D model library containing books of information on tribes is also in the proposal.
