Vizag as Smart City plans are underway and a workshop on Smart City Framework took place here to discuss and plan the road map ahead. Five target areas have been finalised for taking the program ahead. These are Redevelopment of RTC Complex, updating Bus Rapid Transit System, Electric Buses, Emergency Respond system and Water Management.
The first two phases pf the Vizag Smart City plan have been completed and submitted to the Government by Shri M Hari Narayana, the Municipal Commissioner and Managing Director of Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation Limited. Traffic regulation, faster transportation and safety on road especially for pedestrians are the stress areas for future plans.
Visakhapatnam has been selected for development with a Smart City master plan and it is one of three cities. The operations are drawn with US Collaboration. A consortium of KPMG, IBM and AECOM, a multinational engineering firm are preparing the master plan. United States Trade and Development Agency has signed an MoU with the Department of Municipal Adminstration of AP to prepare the master plan.
A presentation by Ryan Bouma of AECOM was made for the Smart City project. VUDA Vice-Chairman P. Basanth Kumar, GVMC Chief Engineer N Durga Prasad, ADCP (Traffic) Mahendra Patrudu, ACP K Prabhakar, APSRTC Executive Director Ramakrishna, Regional Manager Sudheesh Kumar, Regional Joint Director of Municipal Administration K Ramesh and officials of various departments and consortium representatives were in attendance at the workshop.
