Political Punch Founder Arrested For Derogatory Comments Against TDP Legislator

The Vizag police has taken into custody one Inturi Ravikiran. He runs the Facebook page titled ‘Political Punch’. The police have sent him into remand yesterday. The Andhra Pradesh police has long since wanted to arrest the self-proclaimed social media political activist for posting derogatory content about the Telugu Desam Party.

The Visakhapatnam police finally got a chance to nab him following a complaint registered by Dalit TDP legislator V Anitha from Payakaraopeta. Ravikiran had posted derogatory commentary about her on his FB page and after initial investigation, the police arrested him. Ravikiran’s post was reportedly heckling Anitha for putting on weight despite the state’s finances being toned down.

His reaction was apparently for Anitha’s statement that there has been a lot of development in the state after TDP has come to power. Despite Anitha lodging her complaint on April 19, the police hadn’t lodged a complaint and had warned Ravikiran that he could be booked under the SC/ST Atrocities Act. This did not stop him from posting hate comments against TDP on the Political Punch page though.

One look at the FB page & one can see many similar derogatory comments and commentary on the page. Ravikiran was arrested previously and taken into custody in Tullur and investigated. He was let off with a warning and he continued to post similar commentary. Ravikiran on the other hand questions how the post he made about Anitha was derogatory and comes under the SC/ST Act when all he was saying is that she had put on weight.
