Vizag Police on plans to implement one-way rule on more roads of the city

To reduce traffic congestion, the Vizag Police are in plans to initialise one-way rule at some main locations of the city, just like how it is implemented on Beach Road.

At some of the main roads in the city, the officials want to replicate the rule and also, rectify some flaws in the rule imposed at the Vizag shore.

Police Commissioner, Mahesh Chandra Laddha said, “We began the trial run on Beach Road after eliciting opinions from the citizens. Several other roads in the city have problems with traffic congestion and parking. If the Beach Road project is a runaway success, we will replicate plans on other key roads too.”

Though the residents in the nearby colonies of the beach road are not happy with the rule and are demanding alternatives such as creating more parking spaces, the officials feel that the one-way rule will be an immediate solution to reduce parking woes.

In regards to the above, Commissioner mentioned, “Improving infrastructure is a long-term prospect as it requires funding and a multi-department approach. Road widening and building flyovers are not our area of work. We have proposed a few solutions such as ROBs, flyovers, underpass and creation of parking and hawker zones, but they have to be undertaken by the civic bodies. We are working on immediate solutions by modifying the traffic rules in some areas.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police(Traffic) K Prabhakar said, ” If one side of the road is converted to parking zone, leaving the other for passage of vehicle (one-way), then the parking woes at Dabagardens and Jagadamba Junction can be eased.”

The one-way rule, which was mooted by the Visakhapatnam‘s new Commissioner of Police, Mahesh Chandra Laddha, aims at converting the road abutting the beach into a parking area. The plan was proposed keeping in mind the heavy traffic congestion experienced on the Beach Road during holidays.
