Meet the Lady who ran 42 km in sari to promote handloom

Jayanti Sampath Kumar was one of the participants in the 42 km long marathon that took place on Sunday. But unlike other participants, she had something different about her to grab everyone’s attention. The 44-year-old was dressed up in a traditional Indian attire while participating in the Hyderabad marathon.

The epic run at Hyderabad marathon

The 44-year-old was dressed up in a traditional Indian attire while participating in the Hyderabad marathon. She wore a Sari and even managed to complete the entire stretch of 42 km! Now, that requires some determination. In fact, she wasn’t even wearing any sports or running shoes but completed the run with a pair of chappals. Many people were curious to know her reason and also showed interest in taking selfies with her.

In an exclusive interview with Deccan Chronicle, Jayanti said she wants to promote handloom and encourage women. She’s an avid cyclist and says that the plastic pollution concerns her in a grave way. On a lighter note, Jayanti said that may be she should run wearing a sari made up of plastic covers to create awareness.

In fact, she wanted to run barefoot but didn’t choose to do so as the stones hurt her feet. Jayanti has applied to win the title of the ‘fastest marathon runner in a sari’. She even plans to get her name into the Guinness book of world records. She has already informed them about her feat and is waiting to submit the evidence.

As it can be guessed, it requires immense physical and mental stamina to run 42 km while you’re clad in a Sari.At a stage where the handloom industry is fast going out of the trend, this run by Jayanti is being welcome by many activists. Jayanti Sampath Kumar is certainly winning the hearts of one and all with her unique accomplishment.Even the Twitterati congratulated her and wished she inspires many others in the days to come.
