Summer is at our doorstep and we are already feeling the heat. In order to keep the Vizagites hydrated through the season, GVMC has come up with a Summer Action Plan. The plan aims at getting various water facilities across the city repaired and ready by the time the temperatures rise. To take the plan into the action phase, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has allocated Rs 7.93 crores for various waterworks across Vizag.
Speaking to Yo! Vizag, GVMC freshwater supply Supervising Engineer (SE), KVN Ravi the Summer Action Plan is a precautionary step taken by the authorities. It is often seen that the underdeveloped areas in the city face issues with handpumps and bore wells during the summer. SE Ravi has mentioned that the plan is to ensure the locals do not face any inconveniences. Apart from repairs, the GVMC also aims at providing water tankers instantly to the localities facing any shortage of water.
As a part of the plan, GVMC has recognised 96 repair works to be done in Bheemili and Anakapalli. One-third of the allocated 7.93 crores has will be directed towards the purchase of repair equipment and hand pumps, while Rs 1.45 crores will be reserved for the maintenance of electric machinery. Rs 1.73 crores will be allocated for the supply of water tankers across the city as a part of the Summer Action Plan by GVMC.
Supervising Engineer Ravi has also mentioned that tenders would be rolled out soon for the respective works. He said that this initiative has been taken up to be on the safe side, in case of any water crisis.
