The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has been awarded the Smart Campus Award for its extraordinary efforts in implementing the Smart Campus in corporate schools.
Minister of Housing Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, on Friday, awarded the award to GVMC in charge Commissioner and Vice-Chairman of VUDA P. Basanth Kumar and Manager of Smart City Projects G. Ananda Rao in Lucknow.
Select schools were equipped with features such as play areas, play equipment, and landscaping.
Earlier, the concerned officials visited the city to study the existing infrastructure in the schools here and submitted a report to GVMC detailing the requirements. The report also the stressed the importance of maintaining hygiene and proper infrastructure in the schools to attract both the parents and students.
As per the instructions, the GVMC developed around 16 schools in the city, investing Rs 2 crores. In addition to providing potable drinking water, toilets, and other basic amenities, other modern facilities too were provided in these schools.
