Gosha Hospital Vizag to be fitted with additional 280 beds

One of the prominent public hospitals of the district, the Government Victoria Hospital (or Gosha Hospital, as it is popularly known) in Vizag, is set to receive major upgrades. Visakhapatnam District Collector, Dr. A Mallikarjuna IAS, had a meeting with the Hospital Development Committee in this regard. He checked the various wards and blocks at the hospital while taking feedback from the patients on the facilities available to them.

Talking about the planned upgrades, the District Collector revealed that within these upgrades, Gosha Hospital will receive an additional 280 beds for patients. These beds will be facilitated at a budget of Rs. 100 crore, out of which Rs. 80 crore have been kept for the construction work while Rs. 20 crore will be utilised to purchase new equipment.

Earlier in the month, it was announced that Gosha Hospital was among three government hospitals in Vizag, selected by the State Government under the Nadu-Nedu programme, to be developed further. Rs. 100 crore had been allocated for this development work. A new hospital block is also planned whose construction had been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, the District Collector has mentioned that the above-mentioned upgradation works will begin only once the new hospital block’s construction is finished.

Other than this, the District Collector also suggested to Gosha Hospital Superintendent, Dr. G Hemalatha Devi to improve outpatient services, along with adding facilities like a radiologist and an ambulance driver. Dr. Mallikarjuna also stated that the hospital authorities should ensure that the day-to-day functions at the hospital aren’t interrupted by the development work.
