Paderu, in Visakhapatnam, witnessed a freak accident during the wee hours of Tuesday when a 16-year-old died and two others were severely injured after falling off from a giant wheel at a fair that was set up at Government Junior College grounds. The teen girl, identified as G Bhavani of Paderu, reportedly died on the spot after sustaining a fatal injury to her head while the injured ones were rushed to a local hospital before being taken to King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam city, where their condition is known to be stable.
The mishap was caused when the bolts of a cabin got loose leading the cabin to get detached from the wheel and fall from a height of 15 feet. The unfortunate accident took place on the second day of a local festival of Goddess Modakondamma, which saw a huge turnout at the temple.
Circle Inspector Prem Kumar informed that following a complaint from the girl’s parents, a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Mr. Kumar further added that a non-bailable case has been booked against the person who was responsible for running the giant wheel during the accident in Visakhapatnam district.
