Chandrababu Naidu joins hands with Rahul Gandhi to “defeat” BJP together

In what might prove to be a crucial step in serving Chandrababu Naidu’s idea of building a coalition against BJP, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister joined hands with Indian National Congress President Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Thursday. Mr Naidu also met other key leaders of opposition parties in what is expected to be an initial exercise in forming an alliance prior to the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

Addressing the media, Rahul Gandhi said, “After discussing with Mr Naidu, it has been decided that we will work together to defeat BJP.” The leader went on to add, “BJP is attacking the constitutional and democratic institutions of this country, and to stop that from happening, we will be working together.”

Mr Gandhi also mentioned that the parties would be fighting predominantly on the issues of unemployment, corruption, Rafael, Anil Ambani and the Rs 3,000 crore issue, and justice for farmers.

Speaking to the media persons, Chandrababu Naidu said that he was in discussion with several oppositions parties and they all will meet on a common platform to chalk out strategies. Taking a dig at BJP, the Andhra Chief Minister said that the party was attacking the constitutional institutions of the country such as RBI, CBI and the Supreme Court.

Both leaders, however, avoided the question on the Prime Ministerial candidate and said that they were more worried about the nation and saving the democracy.

It is known that earlier this year, Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) broke out of from NDA demanding that the promises made to Andhra Pradesh must be fulfilled.
