Abandoned Bangladeshi cargo ship to be open soon for public in Vizag
In what could be a piece of exciting news for the people of Vizag, the abandoned Bangladeshi Cargo Ship MV MAA will be thrown open for public viewing on 29 December, 2021.
On Thursday, in a media interaction, Andhra Pradesh Tourism Minister, Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao, informed of the aforementioned, and said that the MV MAA Bangladesh Vessel will be transformed into a floating restaurant. He added that it would be built into a wonderful tourist attraction in the coming days and would be the first of its kind in the East Coast.
The Tourism Minister further said that the restaurant will be developed in such a way that it can accommodate over 500 people. He mentioned that the restaurants, with open rooftop features, will stand out as special attractions.
Adding that the Andhra Pradesh State Government is keen on turning Visakhapatnam into a major tourist destination, the Minister informed that a jetty has been sanctioned as part of the cruise tourism and it will be available to the tourists by next year.
Reportedly, the project is being developed on a PPP basis and will be completed in a phased manner in a timeframe of four months.
It could be noted that on 14 October, 2020, the General Bangladeshi Cargo Ship MV MAA drifted aground on Vizag shore, during the early hours. The vessel, which was reportedly sailing under the flag of Bangladesh, had reportedly drifted aground after losing both its anchors. Since then the 80-meter long vessel has been a major attraction at the Tenneti Park area.
