The India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that the well marked low pressure area over South East Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm. As the cyclone threat looms large, the IMD issued orange alert in three Andhra Pradesh districts – Vizag, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam. On the other hand, yellow warning was issued to East Godavari District. As per the forecast, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in the district.
According to the weather agency, low pressure area over central parts of Andaman Sea moved west-northwestwards and became a well marked low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea in the early morning of 2 December 2021. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal during next 12 hours. Then it is likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm over central parts of the Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 24 hours. It is likely to reach west-central Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh – south Odisha coasts around 4 December morning. Thereafter it is likely to move north-northeastwards.
As the threat of cyclone looms over Vizag, District Collector, A Mallikharjuna stepped up the vigil. According to him, the impact of cyclone is likely to be more on Vizag. Hence, control rooms have been set up at the District Collectorate to provide information to the public. People are requested to ring up 08912590102 and 08912560820 for any information with regards to the cyclone.
