A 39-year-old woman from the Middle East, identified as Nasim Aghdam, intruded the YouTube headquarters near San Francisco on Tuesday and fired with a head gun in a courtyard. The US media stated that the incident was the outcome of a domestic dispute. According to the latest updates by officials at San Francisco, the woman killed one person and injured three others, one of which is believed to be her boyfriend. After the shooting, Nasim reportedly shot herself.
Nasim Aghdam, a California dweller of Iranian descent appeared frequently on YouTube and in one of her videos, she even criticised the platform for discriminating and filtering her posts. YouTube deleted her account subsequent to the shooting. Her Instagram and Facebook accounts have also been terminated.
Also, Aghdam, on her personal website, accused YouTube of preventing her videos from reaching a large number of viewers. ”There is no equal growth opportunity on YouTube or any other video sharing site. Your channel will grow if they want to”! she wrote on Facebook.
Soon after the incident took place last night, San Bruno police alerted everyone close to the YouTube headquarters via a Twitter message.
US President Donald Trump expressed his grief over the tragedy and thanked the law enforcement officers and the first responders who swung into the action swiftly.
A letter from Sundar Pichai to the Google family
Few hours past the shooting incident took place at the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, Google CEO Sundar Pichai addressed the incident. Pichai sent an email to all Googlers around the world expressing distress over the unpleasant incident. Pichai stated the shooting as an unimaginable tragedy and a horrific act of violence in the email.
