The Young Men’s Christian Association’s (YMCA) Vizag body has landed itself in a bit of a mess. The YMCA has previously been accused of financial irregularities committed by some of prominent local members in terms of funds and properties.
Former President of the Visakhapatnam YMCA and National President Rolland Williams, National Vice-president Vijay Pradhan, President T Suresh, former President D Krupadan Kumar, former Honorary Secretary N Srinivasa Rao and several present and former Directors held a press conference in September to deny the allegations.
They accused that the present National General Secretary Ch RP Manikumar was charging false allegations over Rolland Williams to throw attention off the ones he was facing. The allegation against Williams lies that he leased out the then newly constructed five storey building to a private agency without consulting the national body. The Vizag YMCA members were to appear before an inquiry committee on September 12 in Delhi.
Now, the National Council of YMCAs in India (NCYI) has formed a four member inquiry panel to look into the issue. The NCYI Secretary CHRP Mani Kumar informed the local YMCA President T Suresh and P Booth Tucker about the appointment of the inquiry committee. The inquiry committee will be headed by convenor Koshy Mathew and members J Dudley Fenn, Churchill Joseph and A Gerald Ebenezer, appointed under article II section 8 (a) and (b) of the NCYI constitution.
The local YMCA has been asked to provide original documents, financial statements, lease deeds and audit reports from 2009. The members involved in the irregularities have been asked to be present before the committee.
