Yesterday, the erosion on Vizag beach as well as possible avenues for development and beautification were the topics of discussion at the district-level technical committee meeting. Visakhapatanam Port Trust Chairman, M. T. Krishna Babu was the acting head. He has invited initiatives for Vizag beach from consultancies appointed who are requested to have the detailed project reports early. The aid of World Bank in this initiative will be a big boost. A total of two projects are planned with a total cost of 390 Crores INR. This funding is coming from the A.P Disaster Recovery Project of World Bank.
The erosion on Vizag Beach will be tackled by Delatres group of Netherlands. they are preparing a detailed project report for the same and the prevention measure are estimated to cost 150 Crores INR.
Similarly, the development and beautification of Vizag Beach which will also be covered under the same grant by World bank will be undertaken by INS Design. At the committee meeting they have come forward with a presentation of the reports and the work undertaken by them already. An estimated cost for this is 240 Crores INR.
Factors such as power projects and ports that might have an impact on beach erosion are under study. This includes, Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram Ports and NTPC and Hinduja Power plants.The work in this context is sought to be expedited and we hope this much needed projects finds speedy execution.
