Vizag likely to get underground parking to ease out traffic congestion

Plans for an Integrated Museum and Tourism Complex with underground parking to ease out the traffic congestion in Vizag have been made. The complex is proposed to connect the Submarine Museum and TU 142 Aircraft Museum on the beach road.

The underground parking is proposed to be extended up to YMCA and also including the area behind Rajiv Smriti Bhavan and in front of the Andhra University Convention Centre. The parking area is likely to stretch over 1.1 km and width of 18 meters to lodge close to 900 cars and 300 to 400 two-wheelers.

The designs for the same are expected to be finalised soon after which, they would be presented to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, informed VUDA

Vice-Chairman P. Basanth Kumar.

He further informed that the underground parking was being followed up aggressively as the multi-level parking scheme couldn’t be executed due to problems faced in getting land.

An amount of Rs 60 crore is expected to be invested in the underground parking project. The project is deemed to be constructed in an innovative manner and is even expected to feature wall panels and shopping among others.

The project, the citizens feel, would help in easing out the traffic congestion on the beach road, which experiences heavy footfall, especially on the weekends.
