In what is intended to bolster the road safety regulations in Vizag, the City Police will soon be launching an app to facilitate people to report traffic rule violations in the city. The complainants, in return, would stand a chance of winning elusive gifts and coupons.
The app, named ‘Eagle Eye’, will enable the citizens to upload pictures or videos of the miscreants online and report various traffic rule violations.
“Be it driving on the wrong side, jumping a traffic signal, triple riding or driving without wearing a helmet, what one needs to do is to click a picture or record a video and upload it on the app,” DCP (Law and Order) K. Fakkeerappa was quoted as saying by The Hindu.
The app, which is deemed as “simple to operate”, can also be used by the police to verify the violator’s face and the vehicle’s registration number before generating an e-challan.
ACP (Traffic) Kinjarapu Prabhakar informed that the e-challans would be generated only after a thorough verification of the photos that are uploaded.
In order to garner public interest, the police have also come forward with a rewarding system for the app’s usage. Each time a person uploads a photo/video, he or she would be awarded some reward points. As the cumulated number of these reward points reaches a base level, a lucky draw would be conducted to announce the winner of a certain gift/coupon.
While a few corporate companies have already expressed their willingness in sponsoring the gifts, the app is presently being tested with traffic beat constables before being launched officially in Vizag.
