Vizag-based bakery raided for not following food safety standards

In yet another incident of a Vizag-based eatery failing to keep up with the food safety standards, city’s Seeta Bakery, at Industrial Estate, might soon land in a soup for breaking several norms.

Acting on a tipoff, officials from Vigilance and Enforcement Department conducted a raid on Tuesday to find that the bakery, without any permissions, used recycled oil and expired ingredients to prepare food and supply it to other outlets.

As per Eenadu, the Department’s DSP, Sravani, said that the bakery did not follow food safety standards. She informed that the bakery used adulterated oil and stale ingredients to prepare different foods and supplied them to outlets across the district. Sravani further added that the bakery’s surroundings too, weren’t well maintained and consumption of food prepared in such unhygienic conditions caused people to suffer from various infections.

Reportedly, the officials collected samples of the foods prepared at the bakery and sent them to Hyderabad to run tests. Based on the reports received, the officials are likely to take legal action against the bakery owners, the DSP informed.

Furthermore, the Vigilance team recognised that the bakery did not provide the manufacturing and expiry dates’ information on the food packaging. Vigilance and Enforcement C.I Narimani, N Srinivas, DCTO Revathi, and Food Inspector Venkataratnam were among those who conducted the raid on Tuesday.

Earlier, several restaurants in Vizag were charged for selling stale food

. The restauranteurs were also found guilty of storing rotten vegetables and expired ingredients in their kitchens. The Vigilance officials had registered cases against the restaurant owners and seized the expired ingredients.
