Rushikonda
Rushikonda Beach, in Vizag, is the only one from Andhra Pradesh to be selected by the Central Government to be developed under the ‘Blue Flag’ project. The project is deemed to develop 13 beaches in the country.
Around ₹ 7.3 crores have been sanctioned by the Central government for the required development works on the beach. Reportedly, the works are being carried out in full swing and are expected to be ready by June end. Notably, an open gymnasium and a children’s play area have already been developed in the area. A new staff, which includes beach cleaners, supervisors and a beach manager, has also been appointed.
The basic criteria for getting the Blue Flag certification includes a clean and secure beach which is free from pollution. The authorities also need to provide the beach goers with environmental education.
As reported by The Hindu, a solar power plant, to supply power for the project, and two watchtowers, made from bamboo, have also been proposed and are expected to be established by the end of June. Bio-toilet blocks, walking and jogging tracks, bathing areas and water dispensing kiosks are among the facilities that are likely to come up at the Rushikonda Beach in Vizag. Moreover, there will also be solid waste management and grey water treatment plants.
