Cases registered against 3 restaurant owners in Vizag for selling stale food

A few restaurants in Vizag seem to be continuing the trend of not following safety standards while delivering food to customers. With food joints not restraining from serving stale items, officials of Vigilance and Enforcement Department and Food Safety Wing of the GVMC in Vizag raided three popular restaurants in the city.

As reported by Eenadu, Bombay restaurant at Daba Gardens, Punjabi Grills and Tandooriwala at Beach Road were examined by the officials on Thursday. As per the details provided by Vigilance and Enforcement SP, D. Koteswara Rao, the restaurants cold-stored biriyani, raw meat, and half-cooked meat for several days and served them to customers, giving rise to serious health concerns.

In addition to selling rotten meat, the restaurants also stored stale food, chicken, fish, prawns and other left-over dishes in refrigerators.

Reportedly, the officials also found rotten vegetables and expired ingredients in the kitchens. “Some dishes were found to be stored in freezers for more than three days. We also found rotten vegetables being used for cooking. Freezers and kitchens were badly maintained,” Vigilance & Enforcement Inspector R. Mallikarjuna Rao was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

The officials registered cases against the owners of these restaurants under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act and seized the stale ingredients found here.

DSP P.M. Naidu, Inspectors N. Srinivasa Rao, B. Narimani, Food Safety Inspectors Janardhan and Apparao took part in the raids conducted on Thursday.
