Vizag is a fast growing economical hub in Andhra at the moment. The city with its vast coastline of 974 kms is vulnerable to minor and major port attacks, says the reports. DGP (Director General of Police) J.V. Ramudu, clearly stated that Pakistan-based and ISI-backed outfits such as Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed continue to pose a serious threat to security forces and civilian targets. Based on specific intelligence inputs, the DGP cautioned the government that there were alerts on a possible attack by LeT cadres on vital installations along the coastline using the sea route.
It is also learnt that to saunter such moves, the State government, in cooperation with the Central intelligence agencies, is on the job to support the counter-intelligence set-up. Apart from this, a regular monthly meeting between the police and the IB at the district level is being planned. “What is required is an efficient intelligence gathering network and multi-agency cooperation,” said a senior officer.
