The 4th Vizag Navy Marathon closed with a superb turnout of over 12000 participants which included participants from all age groups, kids with parents, veterans, youth, Naval Personnel, foreigners and school children. It was conducted on Beach Road and everyone was excited and enthusiastic as they lined up at the start i.e Viswapriya Function Hall. The Vizag Navy Marathon has become an event of epic proportions and people wait each year to take part in it. The participants prepare rigorously so as to do well and it speaks volumes about the city. The marathon was divided into Full Marathon(42.2Kms), Half Marathon (21.1Kms), 10 Kms and 05 Kms races.
This year the Vizag Navy Marathon was a bigger event than ever before since it was organized as part of the ‘SwarnaVarsha’ Celebrations of the Eastern Naval Command. Around 300 runners participated in 42 Km marathon which was started at 4:15 am by the Race Director Dr. Murali. 2000 participated in 21 km race which was flagged off at 5:15 am by Cmde GR Pradhan Commanding Officer INS Kalinga. The 10 km run started at 6:15 am by Vice Admiral Atul Kumar Jain, Chief of Staff ENC with over 3300 runners. The 5 km run recorded 7000 runners and was flagged off at 6:45 am by Vice Adm Karambir Singh Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief ENC.
Organised well despite of the massive scale, the event was managed by Police Department, Indian Navy, GVMC, AP Tourism Department and a host of volunteers. The list of who won what is here –
