The famous express train of the South-Central Railways, Godavari Express completed 45 years of its run on Friday. This remarkable run was celebrated by the Former Director of Vizag Steel Plant, Y.R. Reddy.
The celebrations were marked by a cake-cutting ceremony in Vizag where a few railway employees participated to cheer the 45th anniversary of the popular 12727/28 Express. As a part of the celebrations, the railway personnel decked up the train with garlands.
The celebrations were held at the eighth platform at Vizag railway station, in the presence of the train’s loco pilot, Station Superintendent, Station Director, and a few other railway employees.
Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Reddy said, “The 40th– anniversary celebrations of the Chennai-Egmore-Madurai Vaigai Express held by two software professionals, Arun Pandian, and Mahesh in Chennai inspired me towards celebrating the 45 years of Godavari Express.”
Loco pilot, G. Veerabhadra shared that it was the first time he was participating in the birthday celebrations of a train.
A preferred choice for many travelling between Vizag and Hyderabad, the Godavari Express is known for its punctuality. The train first started its services as the Waltair – Hyderabad Express on the 1st of February in 1974. Later, it was officially renamed as Godavari Express considering the connectivity it provides to the nine isolated stations of the Godavari districts.
