super moon
Visakhapatnam and the rest of the world are all set to witness not only a blue moon and a super moon, but also a total lunar eclipse, all rolled into one great celestial event. Here are 7 things you should know about this rare occurrence –
#1 A triple line-up such as this has not been witnessed since 1982 and the next won’t occur until 2037. That makes it something you do not want to miss.
#2 The second full moon in a month is called a Blue Moon and the Super Moon is a phenomena where in the moon appears larger and brighter than usual due to the maximum proximity to Earth on its orbit.
#3 A total lunar eclipse occurs when earth comes exactly between the sun and the moon and the earth’s shadow falls on the moon. During this, some of the sun’s rays get refracted through the earth’s atmosphere and strike the moon, which thereby takes on a low brown red glow. Therefore, the term Blood Moon.
#4 Visakhapatnam, first in Andhra Pradesh and Telengana and the rest of India will witness the progress of the event from total lunar eclipse to the super moon, 5.20 p.m onwards. In Visakhapatnam the time is set to be 5.45 p.m.
#5 Tides in rivers and seas are expected to be higher than usual due to super moon but nothing that should cause undue alarm. Exercise caution.
#6 The vantage points of witnessing the event such as beach road, Kailasagiri, open parks etc may get crowded so reach the venue well in time and do not forget to carry cameras to capture history. The superstitious beliefs associated with a lunar eclipse have no scientific basis whatsoever.
#7 The Moon would be closest to Earth at just over 223,000 miles i.e 359,000 kilometers.
Now go ahead and make plans with your gang. You do not want to miss this space show of lunar eclipse, blue moon and super moon.
