Efforts are once again underway to throne Visakhapatnam as the cleanest city of India. While the city stood third in the Swachh Survekshan rankings in 2017, it slumped four places to end up 7th on the list of the rankings announced for 2018.
With an aim to improve the same, GVMC Commissioner, Hari Narayanan, urged the officials to step up for Swachh Survekshan 2019. While interacting with the concerned officials on Monday, the Commissioner informed that the assessment teams of Swachh Survekshan 2019 would be visiting Visakhapatnam from 4 January to 31 January.
The meeting saw the GVMC Commission urge individuals from several departments to collaborate and work in unison for helping Visakhapatnam bag the first place in Swachh Survekshan. Hari Narayanan also appreciated Sanitary Inspector Patnaik’s efforts in making 4th Zone’s 31st Ward as a dustbin free ward.
On the other hand, GVMC has also been giving a call to the citizens in maintaining the city in a spotless state. From carrying out awareness drives to administering publicity campaigns, Visakhapatnam’s Chief Governing Body is trying to leave no stone unturned in its endeavour.
While Vizag stood 205th in the ranking announced in 2015, it took major strides eventually to stand 5th and 3rd in the 2016 and 2017 rankings respectively. In Swachh Survekshan 2018, GVMC was awarded 3546.5 points out of 4000.
Swacch Survekshan is a survey conducted every year which assesses the feedback of the citizens and concerned authorities to declare India’s cleanest city.
