Under the Smart City Project, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is working towards upgrading the streets of the city to a smarter level.
GVMC Commissioner and Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation Limited (GVSCCL) Managing Director, M. Hari Narayanan has organised a meeting with officials of the Police Authority, APEDCL departments, APSRTC, BSNL, etc to discuss the proposed ‘Beautification of Streets’ project on Saturday at the GVMC office.
The tender for the Rs 140 crore project has been finalised for upgrading 16 roads at a stretch of 19.5 km in the proposed wards of 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20. The works are likely to commence in one month.
Earlier, the project was proposed on a pilot basis at the principal roads of Peda Waltair and Chinna Waltair. Due to the lack of proper response from the bidders, GVMC has made modifications in the proposed project by including other important routes in the city.
The officials have suggested that it would be convenient for the public if works on the streets would be carried out during the night time.
