Members of All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) in Visakhapatnam, on Tuesday, demanded the arrest of film director Ram Gopal Varma (RGV). It has been reported that the members met Joint Commissioner of Police Nagendra Kumar and submitted a memorandum demanding the same.
“RGV is making money using woman’s body and publicising his extremely corrupt ideas which would impact the society. He is using his image as film director to mislead the youth and is provoking women’s associations challenging them through media. It RGV visits Visakhapatnam, there is a danger it would create a law and order problem and therefore he should be arrested,” the memorandum is reported
to have been saying.Based on a complaint by a woman, who claimed that the director insulted her on a TV show, the city’s police have already booked several cases against RGV under IPC Sections 354 A, 500, 504 and 509 and under Section 67 of IT Act.
On the other hand, RGV said that he would conduct a meeting in Visakhapatnam on March 8 on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Mr. Nagendra Kumar asked us to maintain peace and promised to take necessary steps,” Ms. Madhavi of AIDWA was quoted as saying.
Director Ram Gopal Varma has been making news ever since he announced his ‘God, Sex, and Truth’. Several groups of women activists have claimed that the film consists of “offending” and “derogatory” content and hurts the sentiments of women. They also feared that such films could lead the country’s youth on the wrong path.
Earlier, women associations in Vizag had burnt RGV’s effigy as a protest against his ‘God, Sex and Truth’.
