Winter is here and the climate for the past few days has been pretty pleasant in Visakhapatnam. However, a news that’s been doing rounds for a few days seems to have perturbed us a bit. The cyclone speculations have once been doing rounds on social media and have given rise to uncertainties. However, we have spoken to the officials at the Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam and here’s what they had to say.
According to an official, “There’s no cyclone in the bay. However, a depression has been brewing in the waters and is moving in the North-North-West direction. It is currently situated at 870 km South-South-East of Machlipatnam and will take another two days to come closer to our shores. We will most probably be receiving heavy rainfall from tomorrow.” The official reassured that there’s no question of a cyclone hitting us. You can check the satellite image here.
As a precautionary measure, fishermen and people living in the low-lying areas of Visakhapatnam district have been issued warnings by the officials.
While there’s nothing to panic in this case, the experts feel it would be wise if the citizens are equipped with some basic safety measures if the need arises. Precautionary steps such as keeping a stock of candles, charging emergency lights, stocking up basic groceries, etc would come in handy if the rain intensifies.
