Visakhapatnam to host the 2018 National Games

The City of Destiny is fast developing as a venue to host the 2018 National Games. The government is aiming to construct National and International standard sports complexes and other facilities to organise international sports events in the future.

A synthetic track is being laid at Kommadi in the view of the National Athletics

to be held in the month of November. There will be sports training camps jointly organised by the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh and Sports Authority of India. The government is also making arrangements to provide hostel accommodation for 500 sports persons at Kommadi sports complex. Apart from the hostels the government also decided to start a swimming academy to mark the National Sports Day
on the 29th of August.

Under ‘Khelo India’ the Central government sanctioned funds to procure sports equipments. There will 10 stadiums being constructed at various places each one at a cost of 14 lakh which will be provided by the government. Visakhapatnam with best air, rail and road connectivity in the state along with the best accommodation will be able to cater to the needs of the National Games.
