Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency sees a drop in voting percentage

The Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency has witnessed a drop in the voter turnout in the recently held polls. It may be noted that Visakhapatnam North, Visakhapatnam East, Visakhapatnam South, Visakhapatnam West, Gajuwaka, Bheemili, and Srungavarapu Kota (S Kota) fall under the purview of the Visakhapatnam Parliament constituency. Reports claim that the voting percentage for the Lok Sabha seat went down by 4.71% as compared to the figure registered in 2014.

Of the total 18,25,769 voters across the seven segments in the Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency, 12,28,070 voters utilised their voting right, to register the voting percentage at 67.26%. Notably, female voters outnumbered their male counterparts in the constituency. While men accounted for 6,07,034 voters, women constituted 6,21,028 voters and others formed 8 voters.

S Kota, with a voting percentage of 85.69, registered the highest voter turnout in the general elections in the district while Bheemili and Gajuwaka registered 73.9% and 65.33% respectively. The North, East, South and West segments in the city reported a voter turnout of 62.65%, 64.73%, 61.15% and 58.43% respectively.

“Visakhapatnam (West) has registered the lowest voting percentage e in the entire district with just 58%. If we see the statistics, about 61% of women voters took part in voting, while in the same constituency percentage of male voters was just 55. This shows how women voters have actively come forward to use their voting right,” an election officer was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

On the other hand, the Lok Sabha constituencies of Anakapalle and Araku registered a voter turnout of 81% and 66.07%.
