A goods train from Visakhapatnam reaches destination after four years

In what came as a rather bizarre incident, a goods train that departed from Andhra Pradesh‘s Visakhapatnam in November 2014, reached its destination on Wednesday. The fact that the train took nearly four years to complete its journey, has baffled many railway authorities and officials.

The wagon 107462 was sent from Visakhapatnam carrying fertilizers worth Rs 10 lakh to Basti in Uttar Pradesh, to cover a distance of 1326 km.

The client, Ramachandra Gupta and sons from Basti, had sent a letter to the railways after they hadn’t received the consignment even after a few months since the departure of the goods train from Visakhapatnam. Despite repeated reminders, the train couldn’t be traced and Indian Potash Limited, who had booked the consignment, considered the parcel to be lost.

Gupta and others were taken by surprise when the train reached the Basti station on Wednesday. The client, however, refused to take the parcel claiming that it is of no use to him now and has also demanded the railways for a compensation. The train, apparently, is currently lying unattended at the station in Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the railway officials are trying to find out the reason for the mishap. A few officiers felt that sometimes, wagons might get detached from freight trains because of technical problems, which might have been in the case here as well.
