The City Task Force (CTF) police busted a betting gang in Visakhapatnam and arrested four individuals for organising betting during the recently played One Day International between India and Australia in Hyderabad on Saturday. Acting on a tipoff, the police, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Mahendra Mathe, raided an apartment at Gudlavanipalem in the city on Saturday night to catch the betting gang red-handed while indulging in the act.
The accused have been identified as P. Satya Seshagiri Rao of Bhimavaram, V. Narasimha Raju of PM Palem, A.V. Janaki Gangaram and A.K.S. Venkata Tataji of Veeravasaram, West Godavari district. Reportedly, three of the four persons are graduates and have been organising betting for the last two years.
The police seized three laptops, 55 mobile phones, three communicator setup boxes, LED TV, 19 sim cards and Rs 5900 in cash from the apartment. The arrested have been handed over to the Arilova Police Station and a case has been registered.
Last year, the City Task Force had busted two betting gangs in Visakhapatnam during the IPL season. After raiding two apartments, the police had caught seven members indulging in the activity. The officials even claimed that it was the biggest racket that they had busted in four years.
